A friend, enemy, and container for a given object, gum.
Friend: I decided on making a shoe for this project because a shoe and gum are inseparable. To do this I modeled a shoe in Fusion360, 3d printed it then cast it in glass using a zircar mold. I also paid extra attention to the tread texture of the shoe because my idea was that that was what gum would like best about the shoe.
Foe: After befriending the gum I felt that one of the most nightmarish experiences gum must undergo is the transformation from solid object to gooey discarded mush. With that in mind I designed an unsettlingly “seductive” mouth in Fusion360 to 3d print and cast with zircar. My goal was to make the mouth seem appealing in the most nightmarish way, hopefully creating a bit of cognitive dissonance within the viewer as they tried to reconcile the supposedly enjoyable experience of gum chewing with the very uneasy- making sculpture.
Home: After doing a bit of research I discovered that Dubble Bubble used to come in hexagon jars. I thought this would make a beautiful blow mold in slicer, and spent some time on creating an angled side to add to the visual interest of the steps in the layers from slicer.
