Magic Beans
Medium: Silhouette murrine (glass)
Size: 2x1.5x0.25”
Date: 2024
A bilateral ambigram (word that can be read in either direction when flipped horizontally) was created to say “magic”, 3d printed as an extended form, then cast with color bar that had been pulled into stinger. The resulting letters were packed in clear cane, then pulled in the hot shop. The different viscosities of the colors caused the cane to dip into a bean shape as the murrine was pulled. Each slice was then polished to create a fully realized bean with magic in the center, and photographed as a handful of beans to play with the idea of literal magic beans (as referenced in the fairytale Jack and the Beanstalk.)
